Lab Project Proposal: Ryan and Amelia
Team: HULK
Project topic: Forming a natural energy drink and testing it on daphnia and using dialysis tubing
Chemistry Concept: to create an energy drink that does not separate, to test the heart rate of daphnia, and use dialysis tubing to mirror the intestinal membrane
Hypothesis: That our energy drink will affect the Daphnia’s heart rates as much or more than the leading energy drink and diffuse though the dialysis tubing

The effectiveness of two energy drinks on selected indices of maximal cardiorespiratory fitness and blood lactate levels in male athletes, Nader Rahnama, Abbas Ali Gaeini, Fahimeh Kazemi
Abstract:
EFFECT OF ENERGY DRINK ON DAPHNIA. Amelia Parker and Ryan Hobert. The purpose of the lab was to create a substance that has the ability to raise the heart rate of daphnia. It is believed that the substance created will raise the heart rate of the daphnia and diffuse though the dialysis tubing. To create a substance that raises the heart rate of the daphnia many ingredients are needed. Taurine, ginseng, and other vitamins were mixed together. These ingredients have many health benefits and help with the increase of athletic ability. Oil was added to dissolve the fat soluble vitamins and then to insure the water and oil to not separate honey was added as an emulsifier agent. The heart of the daphnia increased when HULK was added to their water. At a 10:1 ratio of HULK to water the heart rate increased at an average of 36.3 bpm and for 100:1 ratio the heart rate increased at an average of 27.5 bpm. The dialysis tubing was successful because after twenty minutes the water was tested that the tubing was in; benedicts test was positive indicating sugar had diffused through the tubing. The pH of the water after the diffusion increased meaning that a basic solution diffused out of HULK. The drink created was successful in diffusing and raising the heart rate of daphnia, as predicated.
